I have been playing quite a bit this week, and even got to practice with Ashley some bit this weekend. I think I’ve been able to use this quite often as a form of relief during my work periods to take a break which I used to do to procrastinate, but now I get to justify it by saying it’s for my inquiry. I’m definitely getting better at playing the chords in the Serabande of suite 6. It’s still tough, but when I play it slowly I can take the time to think about my finger positioning and it feels rewarding to be able to play it. One of my downfalls though is that because I focus so much on intonation (the accuracy of the notes) I feel like I have to stop everytime I make a mistake and that really ruins the flow of the piece because I go from the beginning, stop when I screw up, figure that part out, then start over and it gets crazy repetitive and somewhat boring. It’s worth it for sure, but it gets frustrating after a while.
I have yet again now found a new piece. It is Hungarian Dance number 5 by Brahms and I’ve listened to it probably since I was 5 years old. It’s a very famous piece, and it came up on my youtube suggested and now I am trying to play it. I’ll put the reference video below, along with a copy of me attempting to play it. Shockingly enough, the disparities between the two are very VERY evident. However, the video I took was from my first day playing it, so I think it’s justified. (Also pardon the quality of the video, I had to make them all 480p so they would upload to wordpress)
