This week we talked about copyright laws, which apparently I knew little to nothing about. I know, since starting university, that whenever we use someone else’s research, studies, work, or resources, that we have to give them credit. I thought thats somewhat what we had to do when using resources as a teacher. Unfortunately, that is not the case due to copyright laws. In fact, it is crucial to check whether or not we have permission to use certain resources, before bringing them into the classroom. Under bill C-11, teachers are given special access to use certain resources in their classrooms for direct educational use, however, there are still laws that dictate how teachers use them.
Dr. Richards gave us a few resources we can use to find photos that aren’t covered by copyright law. It was harmless in elementary school when making simple class presentations to take photos off google images and stick them in without a thought. However now that we are creating presentations and portfolios at the academic and professional level, it is super important that we have permission to use the images and resources we put in our works.
